Hot and Fresh: Fixing column headers in Power Query and a creative Line Chart hack
Happy Thursday. Here’s what’s new on How To Use Power BI this week!
FREE: Fixing column headers in Power Query
Building on the “Intro to Power Query” post, this new post is all about what to do if Power BI can’t figure out what your data column headers are. Sometimes it get confused and puts your column header right IN your data rows (which is NOT where we want them).
It happens so often that Microsoft made an entire button just to fix it in Power Query Editor. Check out the Promoting Column Headers post.
PAID: Adding a Vertical Line AND Error Bars to a Line Chart with a Text Axis
Previously, we learned how to hack a vertical line onto a Line Chart if you have a text field on your X-Axis (it happens sometimes), because Power BI doesn’t give you a way to do it (it’s very rigid a la “Line Charts are only built ONE way” sense) so we hacked it using an error bar trick.
But, what if you want regular error bars (which the above trick makes impossible) AND a vertical line? You hack that hack, baby!
Check out the Adding a Vertical Line AND Error Bars to a Line Chart with a Text Axis post for all the creativity we use to accomplish this.
